    Cardboard Tube Bunny

    March 5, 2023 /

Looking for a fun craft to make with your little ones this Easter? Why not make a cardboard tube bunny. All you need is a cardboard tube and some colour paper. Supplies Step 1 Cut your cardboard tube to your desired bunny height. I cut my toilet paper tube to a height of 7.5 cm. Step 2 To make your body, place your cardboard tube on some colour paper, and mark out the length of the tube with a grey lead pencil. Roll the tube along the paper to ensure you have enough paper to go around the roll with a small overlap. Cut out the colour paper and glue…

Collage Cat inspired by “Winston and the Indoor Cat”

    July 31, 2022 /

Are you looking for a fun craft to make with your children for Book Week? These fun cat collages were inspired by one of this year’s CBCA shortlisted Early Childhood books, “Winston and the Indoor Cat,” written and illustrated by Leila Rudge. “A story about seeing what life is like on the other side of the window. Two very different cats: Winston, a free-spirited explorer; and The Indoor Cat, lover of leisure; form a friendship and show each other how different their lives could be. Can The Indoor Cat be enticed by outdoor adventure? Will Winston be tempted by a life of indoor luxury?“ “Winston and the Indoor Cat” is…

Paper Plate Whale inspired by “Walk of the Whales”

    July 30, 2022 /

Are you looking for a fun craft to make with your children for Book Week? These cute paper plate whales puppets were inspired by one of this year’s CBCA shortlisted Early Childhood books, “Walk of the Whales,” written and illustrated by Nick Bland. “When all of the whales in the ocean leave their home to walk around on land, people don’t quite know what to think. But soon shopkeepers go out of business, farms are flooded with water and salt, and people shout horrible, anti-whale words. That is, until, a smart little girl decides to ask the whales what everyone can do to help.“ Walk of the Whales is a fun…

Paper Cup Rocket Inspired by Stellarphant

    July 24, 2022 /

Are you looking for a fun craft to make with your children for Book Week? These fun jumping paper cup rockets were inspired by one of this year’s CBCA shortlisted Picture Books, “Stellarphant,” written and illustrated by James Foley. “Stella wants to be an astronaut. There is only one problem- Stella is an elephant. Every time she applies to Space Command, they come with a new reason she can’t join. But where there’s a will, there’s a way and Stella is determined to reach for the stars.”“Stellaphant” is a fun, bright story, with a comic book feel, about one of my favourite subjects, outer space. The main character Stella, shows…

Dreaming with Eyes Open | Book Week Display 2022

    July 17, 2022 /

It’s almost Book Week! One of my favourite times of the year in the library. I have just finished creating my Book Week display for this year’s theme “Dreaming with Eyes Open,” and I hope the students will love it. This year’s theme is a bit of a tricky one to create a display for, there are so many options. So I chose to match the theme with a book about a dream, and “The Wizard of Oz” was the winner. The display also doubles as a photo booth. During Book Week students will be able to step inside the display and have their photos taken. I then display the…
